Back in 2006, we re-sided with HardiPlank and went from one of the ugliest houses on the block to one of the nicest looking. Obviously, Hardi costs more over vinyl but I think it was completely worth it. I didn’t like the Craneboard very much. If you do choose the HardiPlank, get a pre-finished option and a 15-year guarantee. One of the installers we interviewed pushed the unfinished option, which they have to paint and you have to repaint much more often. We went with a sailcloth color and think it looks great!

I put up Craneboard 7 on my home 2 1/2 years ago and I absolutely love it. It is about the highest grade vinyl you could buy at the time and cost roughly 5K less than Hardie fiber cement. The insulated panels are great, I guess my only issue is that you can see the seams, it would have been nice if they offered 16′ panels. One word of advice: get your house wrapped in Tyvec or something comparable to avoid moisture issues.
